Meet Yahtzy!

Originally a 2004 Stewart Stevenson M1008A1 for the United States Military, this truck was acquired by Acela Trucking Company in Bozeman, MT in 2021 with only 1256 original miles.

Acela’s Reset Program™ for the Monterra line of trucks creates an all-new version from its predecessor. A 2022 6×6 Monterra, standard with coded door locks, power windows, tinted glass, heated mirrors, cruise control, leather/wood steering wheel, GPS, Satellite Radio, BU camera, high-speed gearing, and XL badging, to name a few. These features make it better than ‘new’ – a superior vehicle for the discerning enthusiast.

This truck is equipped with 46-inch tires, central tire inflation system, 23 inches of ground clearance, the ability to climb a 60-degree incline, traverse a 30-degree slope, and ford 50 inches of water. There isn’t much that will stand in the way of this truck. It is the epitome of a Bad MF – an extreme-duty service truck capable of tackling the toughest terrains under the harshest of climates.

Acela’s trademark reset includes a 300-point test and inspection, replacing over 600 pre-existing parts, creating a like-new machine warranty using only genuine OEM parts. See https://www.acelatruck.com/process for more information.

There is no other vehicle on the market like the Acela Monterra. With unmatched versatility, this truck can accommodate endless possibilities and uses. It is used for a broad range of versatile configurations by minors, construction workers, utility companies, rescue workers, and firefighters.

Every great truck needs a name, and we named this one Yahtzy.

Any Road Trail Where Condition Time Truck

The Truck restoration at Acela

Screen Shot 2023-02-14 at 5.25.44 PM

After arriving at the Montana production facility, every truck undergoes an axle teardown, powertrain workup, and a complete fluid replacement, bringing it up to warranty condition. From there, the cab and chassis are split up and each is stripped to bare metal and built back up in a new form.

Components are inspected, and anything that does not pass inspection gets replaced. The process sees over 300 points carefully inspected and 700+ parts swapped out, including components custom-engineered by Acela Motors.

Comfort features like air conditioning, air-ride seats, cab insulation, modern interior finishes, XM radio, insulation, fabric materials, and a leather-grip steering wheel, to name a few, are added.

The trucks receive ABS upgrades and high-speed gearing for speeds up to 74 mph. Each has a 330 hp Caterpillar 7.2-liter six-cylinder turbo diesel.

Yahtzy Inspiration

Modularity was the driving force behind the creation of this truck, with the goal of creating a platform that could adapt to any use. Therefore, we immediately stretched the chassis to accommodate any 20-foot “common” container, habitat, or flatbed attachment application.

Inspired by traditional shipping container builds due to their low cost of entry, aesthetic appeal, availability, and effectiveness for multiple uses, I want the truck to serve as an RV, a food truck, and a lock-in flatbed. The design allows for multiple 20-foot “carriers”, like a comfortable boot with multiple uses for skiing, skating, or boarding. The lock-in system is independent of the truck.

The goal is to create a truly versatile machine, not just a dormant seasonal RV. I realized this truck has the potential to be a platform for anything I desired, making it usable year-round with multiple applications.

The Modifications Made

One of the key features of our custom-built truck is its versatility, and that’s thanks in part to our decision to stretch the chassis to accommodate a 20-foot container, Blissbox, or flatbed. This design choice allows you to easily swap out different modules depending on your needs, whether you’re using the truck for transportation, living quarters, or something else entirely.

The 20-foot container option provides a secure and weather-resistant space for transporting goods or equipment, while the Blissbox can be customized to create a comfortable living space for extended trips or even as a permanent residence. And if you need an open flatbed for hauling larger items or for use as a mobile workspace, our custom-built truck can handle that too.

With this kind of flexibility, you’ll never be limited by the capabilities of your vehicle. Instead, you can adapt and modify it to suit your specific needs, making it the ultimate tool for any adventure or project.

Our custom-built truck is equipped with the innovative GlobeTrekker True Zero Torsion Subframe, which is designed to float independently of the truck’s main frame. This unique design provides several key benefits, including enhanced stability, improved ride comfort, and increased durability.

The subframe is capable of accommodating a wide range of applications, from 20-foot containers to flatbeds and more, making it incredibly versatile and adaptable to your specific needs. With its cutting-edge engineering and rugged construction, the GlobeTrekker True Zero Torsion Subframe is the perfect foundation for this adventure build.

With the True Zero Torsion Subframe installed, the next step was to construct a box frame that would work in tandem with the pivot points. This box frame would form the foundation for the living space, and it needed to be sturdy enough to withstand the rigors of off-road travel.

To ensure that the box frame was up to the task, we used high-quality materials and paid close attention to every detail of the construction process. We reinforced all of the corners and joints to provide maximum strength and stability, and we made sure that the frame was perfectly level and square.

Once the box frame was complete, we moved on to the next stage of the build, which involved installing the walls, roof, and other components that would turn the truck into a fully functional living space. With the subframe and box frame in place, we knew that we had a solid foundation for our design, and we were excited to see the project start to take shape.

To ensure the ultimate in versatility, our new frame was built with multiple 2-inch receiver tubes that allow for a wide range of plug-and-play accessories. Whether to install a BBQ grill station, a hammock, a TV mount, a table, a cargo rack, a key vault, or a sun shade, our standardized accessories system makes it easy to add and remove features as needed.

Whether on a camping trip, tailgating at a game, or simply enjoying a day out in the sun. With our easy-to-use plug-and-play system, we can easily swap out accessories to suit needs, ensuring the truck is always ready for the next adventure.

The cantilevered pull-out balcony on our custom-built truck is a true engineering feat. Designed to fit snugly within the subframe of the vehicle, it makes use of every inch of available floorspace off the habitat. With a ladder or step attachment, the balcony is easy to access and can be deployed quickly and safely. And best of all, because it’s cantilevered and doesn’t require any legs, you don’t have to worry about taking up valuable ground space or creating a tripping hazard. Whether you want to take in the view from above, enjoy an outdoor meal, or just catch some fresh air, our pull-out balcony is the perfect addition to your adventure vehicle.

Along with the cantilevered pull-out balcony, our custom-built truck also features four 25,000-pound capacity jacks that make leveling the vehicle a breeze. These jacks have a 24-inch pump stroke and can be operated with the touch of a button, making it easy to achieve a perfectly level surface no matter where you are.

Not only do these jacks ensure stability and safety when using the pull-out balcony, they also come in handy in a variety of other situations. Whether you’re parking on uneven ground or need to adjust the truck’s angle for optimal solar panel performance, the jacks make it quick and easy to achieve the perfect level.

Plus, with their high weight capacity, we can be sure that this truck will remain stable and secure even when carrying heavy loads. So no matter where the adventures takes us, we can trust that this build will provide stability and convenience to make the most of any journey.

When it comes to versatility, Yahtzy has us covered from every angle. Our custom-made roof rack makes climbing on top of the truck a breeze, no matter what purpose. Whether we need extra space to store cargo, want to take in the beautiful night sky, or need to perform maintenance on the habitat, this roof rack is the perfect addition to this adventure vehicle.

Designed with safety in mind, the roof rack comes equipped with a fold-down ladder and safety tubing, ensuring that we can easily and safely access the roof of the vehicle. And with its custom design, it seamlessly integrates with the rest of the truck’s features, creating a cohesive and functional adventure vehicle that’s ready for anything.

So whether we stargaze, an off-road adventure, or just need some extra storage space, this roof rack is the perfect solution. With durable construction and thoughtful design, we trust that it will stand up to any challenge we throw on it.

When designing this truck, we wanted to ensure we’d have ample fuel and water reserves for any adventures. That’s why we added a massive 150-gallon diesel tank, capable of providing up to 1500 miles of travel between fill-ups. With this kind of fuel capacity, you can go further and stay out longer, without worrying about running low on diesel.

We also included a 150-gallon stainless culinary-grade fresh water tank, perfect for washing up, cooking, and drinking. This large water tank means we won’t have to worry about running out of water while on the road. And with a 40-gallon grey water tank, we can easily dispose of any waste water, keeping your living space clean and hygienic.

In addition to these tanks, we made sure to include plenty of storage space for all the gear and equipment. Whether we bring along tools for repairs or outdoor gear for your adventures, Yahtzy will have space to store everything needed. No matter what configuration we always have the fuel, water, and storage space you needed to make the most of travel.
